June 10: Detroit to Lake Superior Prov Park

Route: I-96 to US 23 to I-75 to ON 17
Also, collected Michigan termini for Dan Garnell. See (from south to north): M-108, M-28, M-129, BS I-75 in SSM
The explorers, Kevin and Neil, ready to take off for their journey!
No, this wasn't posed at all!
The Mackinac Bridge, from the south.
Mackinac Bridge.
Northbound on the bridge.
On the north side is US 2's northern terminus. Also, the Lake Michigan and Lake Huron Circle Tours divide here.
The toll plaza for the International Bridge at the north end of I 75.
In Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, these shields with English and French words pointed toward ON 17.
The routes to 17 North and 17 East diverge. We stay with the Lake Superior Circle tour
Entering Lake Superior Provincial Park.
Our turnoff of ON 17. We followed a gravel road 14 km through the wilderness to our trailhead on Lake Superior.
Setting off into the woods! (A sign says bears are in the vicinity.)

June 13: Lake Superior Prov Park to Detroit

Route: ON 17 to I-75 to US 23 to I-96
Ascending the International Bridge from Canada
Crossing the border!
A "laker" ship approaches the Soo Locks with iron from Duluth.
The border inspection station..
Second exit in Michigan; goes to the south side of SSM. Hmm... no route marker, just the beginning of the Lake Huron Circle Tour. From the other direction, it's marked as Bus Spur 75.
Getting back on I-75 in SSM. Any one know who Prentiss Brown is? Go Red Wings!
Canada is now the northbound control city. Guess it's better than Sault Ste Marie!
Business Spur 75 ends.
Southbound across the Macinac bridge.
The beginning of US 31 is just a few miles south of US 23's terminus in Macinac City. Find more terminus pictures at Dale Sanderson's site for US 23 or US 31.

Kevin had a gay landlord, so we thought it would be funny to take a picture of the Gaylord sign, then squeeze "land" into the middle!

We never did.

Approaching the northern terminus of US 127. Until only a few weeks before my trip, US 27 was signed up here, but the highway had been recently changed over. More US 127 terminus pictures at Dale Sanderson's.
Closer to the US 127 intersection.
Kevin looks a bit rougher upon return to Detroit
So do I, I suppose, but no worse for wear.

June 15: Detroit to East Lansing

Route: I-96
Leaving Detroit, I found a monster intersection where I-96, I-275, I-696 and M-5 came together.
M-5 ends at 14 Mile Rd? I wonder if they keep this sign updated at the M-5 freeway is extended. BTW, M-5 is E-W east of here and N-S north of here.
This big intersection is also the northern terminus of I-275.
